Management Of Piped Water Systems

Under the CWSA policy reform, CWSA-VR began the management of piped water system in June, 2018 with six water systems. These water systems are located in Akatsi, Adidome, Kwamekrom, Damanko-Kpassa, Taviefe and Vakpo. Since then, a number of water systems have been added to the initial six (6). These include newly constructed water systems and old water systems that were rehabilitated by CWSA under the reforms programme.

The newly constructed water systems were constructed under the Water Supply Improvement Project (Ghana Spain Debt Swap Project). These include Ziope water system, Akpokope/Batume Junction water system and Amedzofe water system.

The rehabilitated water systems that have also been added to the initial six (6) include Kete-Krachi, Banda, Chinderi, Dambai and Nkwanta water systems.

Key Achievements

Prior to the reforms programme in the Volta and Oti regions, a number of water systems including Nkwanta, Taviefe, Banda and Vakpo had broken down resulting in shortage of safe reliable water supply in those communities. As part of the reform programme, these water systems have undergone massive rehabilitation which has restored water supply to the communities. A total of Forty-Eight Thousand Seven Hundred and

Seventy Four (48,774) residents in the above-mentioned communities now have access to safe water. Furthermore, huge investment has been made on all the water systems that are under CWSA-VR management to increase coverage and reliability of water supply services.
