Handwashing with soap is one of the most effective ways of preventing infectious diseases including COVID-19. The Government of Ghana has been promoting handwashing with soap over the years through its agencies, such as the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and other collaborators. Handwashing behaviors of individuals are influenced by the availability of safe water, soap or cleansing agent and an appropriate handwashing device or facility.
The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR) through its agencies and together with its development partners have been implementing projects to increase access to WASH services. In recent times, the Ministry in collaboration with the Ghana Enterprises Agency, UNICEF and other partners, -has been working with the private sector to increase access and affordability of cleansing agents and handwashing devices.
