The Bono region under the erstwhile Brong-Ahafo Region have made a lot of strides in the facilitation and implementation of the NCWSP. From 1994, the Region has been a beneficiary of several water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) projects from its major development partners namely; the International Development Association (IDA), the European Union (EU) and the Agence Française de Développement (AFD). With their support funds, the Region benefited from the Community Water and Sanitation
Project CWSP-1 (1994 – 1999), Community Water and Sanitation Project CWSP-II (2000 – 2005) and the Small Towns Water Supply and Sanitation Project (STWSSP). The then Brong-Ahafo Region also collaborated with CBRDP to complete the drilling of 556 boreholes under the CWSP-II/1.
An AFD funded project completed in November, 2007 provided boreholes, Small Towns Piped Systems, sanitation for Households, School and Small Towns as well as Hygiene Education for the Region.
The Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project (SRWSP, 2016-2017), and its successor, the Additional Financing – Sustainable Rural Water and Sanitation Project (AF-SRWSP, 2017-2020) are the main WASH Projects under implementation by the Region. These projects have, and will achieve, the construction of boreholes fitted with hand pumps or solar powered pumps, limited mechanized schemes and small town water systems. With respect to sanitation, the projects provide for the construction of institutional latrines, household latrines and commercial public latrines for Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) to achieve Open Defecation Free (ODF) status within the communities.
