  The Way Forward
You are very much welcome to the website of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA ) and we acknowledge you as a key partner in our efforts towards facilitating the provision of  safe water and related sanitation services to rural communities and small towns throughout Ghana. We welcome your suggestions, comments and contributions that will help us work together to achieve the objectives of the CWSA.

The Agency continues to strive to achieve its set targets and increase access to safe water and related sanitation services as well as promoting good hygiene behavioral practices in rural communities and small towns throughout Ghana.  The Agency has worked assiduously to ensure that ongoing projects are executed with a high degree of efficiency and effectiveness.

The Agency has played an active role in various sector related activities during the year such as the World Water Day, the 2nd National Policy Fair, the Mole XXII Conference, the National Water Forum, the National Inter-Schools WASH Quiz as well as the Global Handwashing Day.  All these activities have provided the opportunity for CWSA to showcase its achievements, share knowledge with sector stakeholders and to interact with the general public.

In connection with the Global Handwashing Day which fell on Saturday, 15th October 2011 under the theme, “More Than Just a Day: Making Handwashing a Daily Practice”, we are encouraging all and sundry to reflect on our lifestyle and what we can do to help others to make handwashing a daily practice in their lives.

In the course of this year, the Agency has put in more effort to finalise a subsidiary legislation aimed at enhancing the Agency’s regulatory activities.  A draft Legislation Instrument (LI) has been prepared and discussed with stakeholders through three zonal orientation sessions held in Tamale, Kumasi and Accra.  These forums provided the opportunity for key stakeholders such as District Assemblies, Water and Sanitation Development Boards, consultants and contractors operating within the water and sanitation sub sector to give their input into the draft LI.  Further discussions have been held with representatives of the Legislative Drafting Division of the Attorney-General’s Department in fine tuning the draft LI.

CWSA as a regulatory agency also aspires to be a centre of learning for the sharing of information on the delivery of safe water and related sanitation services has taken knowledge management as a critical issue.  We also endeavour to share our experience with other institutions both within and outside the country.  For instance on the 4th of October, 2011, the Agency received a delegation from Mozambique who were in the country to learn about water and sanitation delivery in Ghana.

The District Assemblies are our key partners and we are committed to collaborating with them in the implementation of various water and sanitation projects in the country.  It is our fervent hope that other private entities and non-governmental organizations who are prepared and willing to fund or execute safe water and sanitation projects will also engage with us.  Such co-operation and collaboration will enhance adherence to the strategy of the National Community Water and Sanitation Programme.
