Good Afternoon, 15th October is Global Handwashing Day (GHD). A global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding about the importance of handwashing with soap as an effective and affordable way to prevent diarrheal diseases and respiratory infections. As we prepare towards the commemoration of GHD good hand hygiene should be your top priority:
•Did you know that Ghana has recorded 18,902 cholera cases and 150 deaths in 9 regions as at 26th September 2014)? This is a wakeup call that washing the hands with soap should indeed be a daily practice;
•Did you know that our hands operate a highly effective public transport network for bacteria and viruses; that there can be more than 1,000 resident bacteria per cm2 on your hand and those infection-causing germs are too small to see with the naked eye?
•Did you know that under optimal conditions bacteria can grow extremely fast and that it could double every 20 minutes; and that bacteria can stay alive on hands for up to three hours?
Handwashing is a choice that everyone can make multiple times a day. Choose handwashing choose health!
